Mental (St)ealth – The Reclaiming of Creative Voice
Short Description:
Work with artist/author Dylan Scholinski. Read and discuss Dylan’s memoir “ The Last Time I Wore a Dress”. Students will also be introduced to a variety of art created by “outsider” and personal narrative artists as well as occasional visits from local “creative types” who will share their own perspectives on why they do the artwork that they do. Students will work with Dylan through an open studio environment to create their own works ( ie : drawing, painting, writing, music, performances, zines, storytelling, etc. ) to express their own lives and stories and to help facilitate the reclaiming of their creative voices and finding the power and pride in those voices. In addition, we will all learn to be better witnesses to and for each other. The students will have a variety of showing opportunities to show their work. This class will meet 2 times a week and also include some Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays at Dylan’s private studio, located in downtown Denver.
